Defendant Sentenced for Felony Animal Cruelty with a Deadly Weapon
DATE: January 12, 2021
CASE: Jerry Nguyen (Case #20FE013962)
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Monica Robinson, Animal Cruelty Unit
Jerry Nguyen pled to felony animal cruelty with a deadly weapon for torturing five dogs, including three puppies. The Honorable Geoffrey Goodman sentenced Nguyen to one year in county jail. Nguyen is also prohibited from owning animals for 10 years.
In 2020, Nguyen posted an add on Craigslist to sell puppies. Prospective purchasers noticed the puppies had been shot multiple times by a BB gun and suffered lacerations on their snouts from having their muzzles tied shut. An investigation by Sacramento County Animal Control, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney Investigator Joyce Thorgrimson resulted in locating two adult dogs at Nguyen’s home with the same injuries as the puppies.
